룩셈부르크 소재 한국 인공지능(AI) 전문기업 DDE(DATA DESIGN ENGINEERING)가 10월 21일 국내 최대 규모 전자·IT 전시회에서 군집 드론 최신 기술 동향을 선보였다.
DDE는 21일부터 24일까지 서울 코엑스에서 나흘간 열리는 KES 2025(한국전자전)에서 AI에 의해 제어되는 여러 개의 드론과 로봇들이 동일한 목표를 수행하는 자율 군집 AI 모델을 시연했다.
이날 시연회는 인터넷이 연결되기 어려운 오프라인 환경에서 스마트체어가 상호작용하는 자율 군집 AI(On Device Swam AI)’, 드론, MOMA(Mobile Manipulator, 자율주행과 물체를 집거나 옮길 수 있는 기능을 융합한 이동로봇) 중심으로 진행됐다.
예컨대 몸이 불편한 스마트 의자 사용자가 주방에서 새어 나오는메케한 연기를 발견했다고 치자. 사용자는 음성으로 드론에게 실내 상황 파악을 명령한다. 이에 주방으로 들어간 드론은 화재로 인해 진입이 불가한 상황을 인식하고 이 정보를 MOMA(로봇)과 공유한다. 로봇은 소화기를 들고 화재 현장에 진입해 불을 끄는 프로세스다.
이 드론은 GPS 신호 없이 영상 카메라만으로 사물을 인식하고, 스스로 생성한 좌표를 토대로 자율 비행을 구현한 게 특징이다. DDE는 시스템통합 솔루션 기업 고성엔지니어링과 제휴해 이같이 AI로 드론을 제어하는 기술을 개발했다. DDE와 고성엔지니어링 측은 “드론에 탑재된 AI가 사람의 음성 명령을 받아 스스로 인지·판단·실행하는 비전-언어-행동 (Vision-Language-Action·VLA) 모델을 정상 작동시켰다는 점에서 기술적 의의가 있다”고 말했다.
또 DDE와 고성엔지니어링은 드론이 전파 방해 또는 전파 수신 악화로 통신 두절 상태일 때에도 GPS 수신 없이 임무를 수행하는 ‘GPS Denied 드론’ 기술력도 입증했다. 이 기술은 무대를 전장으로 옮길 경우 다수의 무인기가 여러 표적 정보를 주고받으면서 자율적으로 계획을 수정해 목표를 달성하는 임무에 적용될 수 있다는 점에서 활용 잠재력이 크다는 평가를 받는다.

눈길을 끄는 것은 23일 시연회다. 룩셈부르크 경제·산업계 주요 인사들이 방문해 참관할 예정이다. 시찰단은 룩셈부르크 한국경제인협회 격인 페딜(Fedil)의 알렉스 슈만(Alex Schumann) 부회장을 대표로 룩셈 정부 등의 디지털 혁신‘Digital & Innovation) 분야 관계자들로 구성됐다. 시찰단에는 룩스코넥트(LuxConnect ·정부와 금융기관용 보안 솔루션 공기업)의 폴 콘스부룩 CEO와 현지 유력 언론사인 RTL룩셈부르크의 크리스토프 구센 CEO가 포함됐다. 룩셈부르크는 정부 주도로 AI드론 산업을 집중·양성하는 정책을 추진 중이다.
DDE는 룩셈부르크를 기반으로 활동하는 국내 AI 기업으로 2022년 룩셈부르크에 진출했다. 올해 룩셈부르크 국방부가 발주한 'On Device Swam AI' 드론 프로젝트를 수주했고 현지 문화산업의 허브로서 상징성이 큰 국가도서관 로봇 자동화 프로젝트도 진행하고 있다. DDE는 또 지난 6월 룩셈부르크 정부가 주관하는 'Luxembourg AI Excellence Awards 2025’에서 'AI Innovation Excellence' 부문 수상자로 선정됐다.

DDE (Data Design Engineering), a Korean AI technology company based in Luxembourg, unveiled the latest trends in swarm drone technology at KES 2025, Korea’s largest electronics and IT exhibition, on October 21.
During the four-day event at COEX, Seoul (October 21–24), DDE demonstrated an autonomous swarm AI model, where multiple AI-controlled drones and robots collaborate to perform shared missions.
The demonstration centered on “On Device Swarm AI”, featuring interaction among drones, MOMA (Mobile Manipulator — a mobile robot integrating autonomous navigation and object-handling functions), and Smart Chairs, all operating in offline environments without internet connectivity.
For instance, imagine a Smart Chair user with limited mobility noticing smoke coming from the kitchen. The user gives a voice command to a drone to check the situation. The drone autonomously flies into the kitchen, detects that entry is impossible due to fire, and shares the information with MOMA, which then retrieves a fire extinguisher and enters the area to extinguish the fire — completing the mission collaboratively.
The drone operates without GPS, recognizing objects only through vision cameras and generating its own coordinates for autonomous flight. DDE, in partnership with Gosung Engineering, developed this AI-based drone control system.
A representative from DDE and Gosung Engineering stated:
“The onboard AI successfully executed a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, autonomously understanding, reasoning, and acting on human voice commands — a significant step forward in practical AI-driven autonomy.”
The two companies also proved their “GPS-Denied Drone” technology, enabling drones to perform missions even when communication is disrupted or GPS signals are weak. This capability has strong potential for defense applications, where multiple unmanned systems could share target data and autonomously adjust mission plans in real time.
The highlight of the event will be the October 23 demonstration, attended by key figures from Luxembourg’s economic and industrial sectors. The delegation will be led by Alex Schumann, Vice Chairman of Fedil (Luxembourg’s leading business federation), and will include officials from the government’s Digital & Innovation division.
Notable attendees include Paul Konsbruck, CEO of LuxConnect (a state-owned secure ICT solutions provider for government and financial institutions), and Christophe Goessen, CEO of RTL Luxembourg, a leading media group. Luxembourg is currently pursuing a government-led initiative to strengthen its AI drone industry, and the delegation’s visit aims to observe DDE’s latest technological developments firsthand.
Since expanding into Luxembourg in 2022, DDE has secured major contracts, including the “On Device Swarm AI Drone Project” commissioned by the Luxembourg Ministry of Defense, and a robot automation project for the National Library of Luxembourg, a central institution in the country’s cultural sector.
In June 2025, DDE also received the AI Innovation Excellence Award at the Luxembourg AI Excellence Awards 2025, hosted by the Luxembourg government, in recognition of its technological leadership in edge AI and offline AI inference.
KES 2025, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Electronics Association, is Korea’s largest electronics and IT exhibition, held over four days at COEX, Seoul.
